The Lenovo Tab P12 is an exciting 12.7 inch mid-range tablet that offers a greta package at a very competitive price. The Lenovo P12 packs a high-resolution display with Pen Plus, and an optional a keyboard cover. All this makes this table a great choice for back to school season.
Design, Hardware, and Display
The design of the Lenovo Tab P12 is very similar to its predecessor, the P12 Pro, and feels very premium with a metal casing all-around. The table is 6.9mm thin and weighs 615g, which makes it very comfortable to hold and use. The Lenovo Tab P12 is powered by a MediaTek MT8791V processor with a total of 8 cores, 4GB or 8GB of RAM and 128GB or 256GB of internal storage.
On the left side, you’ll find the power button which acts as a fingerprint reader as well, in addition to a dual microphone setup, two JBL speakers, and the card tray. Volume buttons sit on the top, while two more JBL speakers and a USB Type-C connector sit on the right side of the tablet. The smart connector for the optional keyboard is positioned on the bottom side.
The display of the Lenovo Tab P12 is 12.7 inches LCD panel at a resolution of 2944×1840 with a 16:10 aspect ratio and a 60Hz refresh rate (sadly no 120 here), translating to a super sharp display of images, text and colors. We have to admit, Lenovo did a great job with the display.
Sound wise, the Lenovo P12 is powered by an Atmos-certified, JBL quad speakers setup that produces some great sounds with surprisingly great bas, making it the perfect companion for watching HD movies on Netflix, Starzplay and other streaming services.
Connectivity options on the Lenovo Tab P12 include Bluetooth 5.1, USB Type-C 2.0, and WiFi 6 support.
On the camera front, the Tab P12 features a 13-megapixel front-facing ultra-wide camera and an 8-megapixel rear camera with LED Flash. The camera system in general is fine, with front facing shooter great for video conferencing.
Software, Keyboard and Pen
The Tab P12 is loaded with Android 13, and as is the case with Lenovo, the interface feels almost stock Android like, with some minor additions here and there, that don’t really ruin the experience like some other bands. Overall, the software experience is very clean and intuitive.
Connecting the external keyboard is a breeze though the connectors at the bottom, and the tablet automatically transforms into a notebook, with full keyboard shortcut support and fully functional trackpad. We enjoy using the keyboard, and wrote part of this review using the tab.
The Lenovo Pen Plus can be used for handwriting across multiple apps like Nebo, and Notepad. The pen can also be used a remote controller with selected apps. The pen is made of plastic, and has a button on the side and a USB C port for charging. Additionally, the pen hold few other tricks, like using the stylus as a magnifying glass and laser pointer, as well as taking and editing screenshots.
Performance and Battery
Using the Tab P12 for few weeks was impressive, the MediaTek MT8791V processor held up well under pressure, without any lags or drops during out test. As we mentioned in the bringing, this is surely a great option for students looking to get a new device to use at school or at home during the upcoming school year.
One thing to note here and remind everyone, is that this is a not a gaming tablet, and while most games we played held up well, it wouldn’t be the best performer in this space, but gets a two thumbs up for everything else for sure. Multitasking works nicely, even while loaded with multiple apps at the same time.
The 10200mAh battery preformed well, and we got around 7 hours of screen time with the normal day to day use of watching some videos, social media, emails, and using the Tab Pen Plus.
Verdict
The Lenovo Tab P12 is a recommended choice as far as mid range tablets go. the price and performance combo is very appealing. The Tab P12 is launching on September 15th in the UAE at 1699 AED.
