Tweets come to Google Search

GEEK DESK

Aug 23

Google recently revealed that they’ve added tweets to the Google Search platform, letting users who use the Google app or any browser on their smartphones or tablets to also see tweets that are relevant to what they’re searching for. Google also upgraded their browser version to feature this.

Whether you’re interested in the latest from Taylor Swift, news about #GuildWars2, or updates on the Premier League matches, you’ll have access to it directly from Google. Let’s use NASA as an example—just ask the Google app about “NASA Twitter,” and in the search results, you’ll see Tweets from @NASA:

Nasa-Search-Results

Or if you heard that today is Kobe Bryant’s birthday, you can ask your Google App and see how people across all demographics and cultures in the Twitter community are saying about it:

Nasa-Search-Results

You may wonder why Google is giving Twitter a boost? It’s the result of both the companies partnering back in May to bring tweets to mobile search results. This results in more Tweets given attention, which is great for Twitter. People who see the Tweets may be inclined to hop aboard the Twitter bandwagon. Google helps you search for things and Twitter tells you what people are thinking of those things. It doesn’t take a genius to see that it’s a match made in heaven. The waters are perfectly still as people wait with bated breath to see if the T in Alphabet will soon be filled in…

Until then I know I’m going to keep an eye out for when Facebook posts appear in my Google search results for “Fluffy cats”.

What do you think of Twitter and Google’s partnership? Would seeing unwanted tweets irk you? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
