RTA’s Smart Roads

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched ” Smart Roads” in GITEX 2014.

The app will give  users the capabilities to navigate the UAE roads and will inform users about traffic conditions ahead in addition to accidents. App Users will be able to share accidents information in real time.

The app offers users real-time, accurate and direct information about road conditions in Dubai and, accordingly, enables them to pre-plan their trips, use alternative roads and avoid congested routes. The application is also fitted with a prompt reporting feature that provides real-time updates about traffic conditions, traffic jams, and accidents, among other surprises, so that users can avoid these, said Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of RTA .

The most exiting feature probably is the update that will allow users to find vacant parking spots. For the time being, this service launched on a trial basis at a section of Sheikh Zayed Road.

We are adding features that will come in handy for motorists when looking for vacant parking spaces in busy areas. We have started the service at all RTA’s parking buildings and by the end of the year we will have the service at some parking lots as well,  said Al Tayer.

The app will be updated with parking availability through sensors installed in parking spaces that will automatically feed the system with information.

The Smart Roads app is being updated quarterly with recent maps of vital locations in the UAE in general, without having to get internet connection, such as Dubai landmarks or familiar sites nearby the position of the app users by selecting one of map display features whether in 2D or 3D. Some services in the app require internet connectivity such as obtaining real time traffic information in Dubai roads or reporting the road condition of roads in the Emirate,” said Engineer Maitha bin Udai, CEO of RTA Traffic & Roads Agency.
