The Wall Street Journal has reported that Google plans to merge its Chrome operating system into Android.
Talks about this merge have been surfacing for some time now, but it seems its now confirmed and as per the report, Google has been working for two years to merge Chrome OS and Android. The new OS is expected to be released to the public in 2017 with beta versions starting in 2016.
That said, the tweet of Senior VP of Chrome OS, Chromecast and Android Hiroshi Lockheimer suggest that there might a dual strategy at play here.
There’s a ton of momentum for Chromebooks and we are very committed to Chrome OS. I just bought two for my kids for schoolwork!
