Facebook has announced a new and improved notifications tab on mobile. The social network said that the notification tab will start looking more like a dashboard, and in addition to the standard status updates, group activity and birthdays, it will also now include info that you might be interested in based on your location like weather, news, sports, events happening in and around your area and even calendar items.
Users can customize what notifications they want to see by tapping the drop down arrow on the cards. The server side changes will gradually roll out as of today on iOS and Android.
Every day, people use their notifications to keep up-to-date with their friends and family, said Facebook product manager Keith Peiris in a post. We’ve heard feedback that people wanted to add important information that they can easily see, all in one place.
