Christopher Nolan’s historical epic “Oppenheimer” dominated the 96th Academy Awards, sweeping the coveted categories of Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actor for Cillian Murphy’s captivating performance. Despite its pre-show buzz and eight nominations, “Barbie” could only manage a solitary win for Best Original Song.
Elsewhere, “Poor Things” turned heads with a dazzling array of awards, including Best Costume Design, Best Makeup and Hairstyling, and Best Production Design. Emma Stone also delivered a surprise upset in the Best Actress category, taking home the trophy for her role in “Poor Things” over early favorite Lily Gladstone. Gladstone made history as the first Native American Best Actress nominee for her powerful performance in Martin Scorsese’s “Killers of the Flower Moon,” but Stone’s unpredictable and layered portrayal in “Poor Things” ultimately won over the Academy voters.
Jimmy Kimmel returned to the Dolby Theater stage in Los Angeles for his second consecutive year (and fourth time overall) as host of the star-studded ceremony. The ceremony itself was a lively affair, with Kimmel’s signature wit keeping the audience entertained throughout the night.
