Google says it is investigating Google Drive users’ claims that they are losing personal files from their cloud folders. The company acknowledged the the issue on their blog, and said that sync issues involve a “limited subset” of Google Drive users mainly on desktop versions 84.0.0.0 through 84.0.4.0.
Some users are reporting files lost dating back 6 months.
Google said it’s currently investigating the issue and asked users to follow the below steps:
- Do not click “Disconnect account” within Drive for desktop
- Do not delete or move the app data folder:
- Windows: %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Google\DriveFS
- macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Google/DriveFS
- Optional: If you have room on your hard drive, we recommend making a copy of the app data folder.
