Apple is gearing up to release new, more affordable versions of its popular AirPods earbuds in the fall of 2024, alongside the iPhone 16 series. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, two models are in the works, potentially replacing the second and third-generation AirPods.
Production is expected to begin in May, with a likely September or October launch window. The updated AirPods will reportedly feature improved design, a more secure fit, and USB-C charging cases. These new models might retain similar pricing to their predecessors, providing excellent features at more accessible price points.
The higher-end pair is rumored to include Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) and features to aid in locating misplaced earbuds. Apple is also developing a hearing test feature for upcoming earbuds, along with other audio-focused iOS 18 additions.
In addition to these new models, Gurman previously reported an update to the AirPods Max over-ear headphones is also in the pipeline.
