Exciting rumors are swirling about a potential upgrade to the PlayStation 5 – the highly anticipated PlayStation 5 Pro. While nothing is officially confirmed by Sony, reputable sources like YouTuber Moore’s Law is Dead and Tom Henderson of Insider Gaming have obtained compelling evidence suggesting a new, more powerful PS5 is indeed in the works.
The leaked information reveals significant potential upgrades on the performance front. Code-named “Trinity”, the PS5 Pro may showcase a tremendous leap in GPU power – possibly tripling that of the original PS5. This translates to a theoretical 45% boost in rendering performance, opening the door to a smoother, visually richer gaming experience. Additionally, insiders claim the PS5 Pro could deliver up to three times the ray tracing performance of its predecessor, promising breathtakingly realistic lighting and shadow effects in supported games.
The leaked documents also hint at an exciting new technology called PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR). This intriguing feature is rumored to use machine learning for image upscaling, similar to the impressive effects seen with Nvidia’s DLSS and AMD’s FSR. If real, PSSR could enable the PS5 Pro to render games at higher resolutions, potentially even upscaling to 8K, while enhancing overall performance, especially in ray-traced titles.
While Moore’s Law is Dead has a mixed track record when it comes to console predictions, Tom Henderson’s reporting adds credibility to the leaks. Further corroboration stems from Henderson’s past claims that Sony had a PS5 Pro in development with a November 2024 target release. It now appears that Sony could be on track to meet that optimistic launch window. The fact that Sony’s own developers have allegedly been testing PS5 Pro dev kits since September 2023, with third-party developers following suit in January 2024, further solidifies the rumors.
More updates as they come.
