LG raises the bar with a 45-Inch 5K bendable OLED gaming monitor

LG has announced two impressive additions to its UltraGear lineup of gaming monitors ahead of CES 2025. Leading the charge is the 45-inch UltraGear 45GX990A, a groundbreaking display boasting a 5K resolution and a bendable OLED panel. This marks the world’s first 5K OLED monitor, offering gamers an unprecedented level of immersion and visual fidelity.

The UltraGear 45GX990A features a 5120 x 2160 resolution (5K2K) with a pixel density of 125 pixels per inch. The 45-inch display utilizes LG’s WOLED technology and boasts a 21:9 aspect ratio. What truly sets this monitor apart is its ability to transform from a flat screen to an immersive 900R curve in a matter of seconds.

This isn’t the first bendable OLED monitor on the market, but it is the first to combine this technology with a 5K resolution. LG’s previous bendable offering, the OLED Flex, was a 42-inch monitor/TV hybrid. The UltraGear 45GX990A takes this concept further, catering specifically to the needs of gamers with its higher resolution and gaming-focused features.

The monitor also features an updated version of LG’s Dual-Mode functionality, allowing users to switch between different resolution and refresh rate combinations to optimize performance for different games. While LG has not yet revealed the specific presets or native refresh rate, the previous generation of Dual-Mode allowed for switching between 4K at 240Hz and 1080p at 480Hz. This new iteration offers eight configurations, including options to switch between 21:9 and 16:9 aspect ratios and simulate different screen sizes.

LG will also offer a non-bendable version of this monitor, the 45GX950A, which retains the 5K resolution and Dual-Mode functionality.

In addition to the 45GX990A, LG also announced the UltraGear 39GX90SA, a 39-inch OLED gaming monitor with “smart” capabilities. Powered by webOS, the same operating system found in LG televisions, this monitor can function independently without being connected to a PC or streaming device. This marks the first time webOS has been integrated into a gaming monitor.

The UltraGear 39GX90SA features a 21:9 aspect ratio, an 800R curve, and a distinctive L-shaped stand. LG has not yet disclosed the refresh rate for this model.

Both the UltraGear 45GX990A and 39GX90SA are expected to be showcased at CES 2025, where more details about their specifications, pricing, and availability will be revealed.
