Lexar launches 1TB microSD Express card for Nintendo Switch 2 compatibility

A new 1TB microSD Express card is now available for gamers looking to expand storage on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. Lexar recently introduced its Play Pro microSDXC Express card line, with storage capacities of 1TB, 512GB, and 256GB. These cards are among the first to support the microSD Express format, which the Nintendo Switch 2 will require, replacing the older microSD standard used in previous models.

The 1TB version, priced at $199.99, was released alongside the smaller 512GB ($99.99) and 256GB ($49.99) variants. Early demand has been high, with several configurations quickly selling out online. While availability may be limited at the moment, restocks are expected ahead of the Nintendo Switch 2’s official launch.

With read speeds reaching up to 900MB/s and write speeds up to 600MB/s, Lexar’s microSD Express cards are geared toward gamers who need faster load times and smoother performance for digital games and large downloads. These speeds significantly outpace traditional microSD cards, which top out much lower in performance.

In addition to Lexar, GameStop is also rolling out its own microSD Express card line with the same storage capacities of 1TB, 512GB, and 256GB. These are expected to ship closer to the Nintendo Switch 2’s release date in June, offering more choices for gamers looking to upgrade.

As microSD Express becomes the new standard for portable console storage, having a compatible card will be essential for anyone planning to upgrade to the Nintendo Switch 2. For now, Lexar’s offerings are leading the charge, giving early adopters a way to prepare their setup ahead of the new console’s arrival.
