Instagram doubles down on visual storytelling: carousel posts now hold 20 photos and videos

Instagram is rolling out a significant update to its carousel posts, allowing users to share up to 20 photos and videos in a single post, double the previous limit of 10. This expansion caters to users who enjoy sharing their stories and experiences in more detail through a series of images and clips.

The carousel feature, introduced in 2017, has become a popular way to create visually engaging posts by combining multiple photos and videos. Over time, Instagram has enriched this feature with functionalities like adding music and enabling collaborative posts where multiple users contribute content.

This update aligns Instagram’s carousel capacity with TikTok, which allows for up to 35 photos per post. While the change might not be groundbreaking for all users, it certainly benefits those who utilize Instagram for visual storytelling and photo dumps. Notably, it also reflects the growing prominence of photos on TikTok, a platform initially known for its short-form video content.

The feature is being rolled out gradually, so it might take some time before all accounts have access to it. In the meantime, users are encouraged to share their Instagram usage habits and preferences, whether they favor photos or videos, to help shape the platform’s future developments.
