Google is expanding its “School Time” feature to help parents manage their children’s screen time during school hours or other designated periods. Using the Family Link app, parents can now set specific hours when their kids’ Android phones, tablets, and even some Samsung Galaxy Watches will have limited functionality.
During School Time, the device switches to a dedicated home page with limited notifications. Parents can control which apps remain accessible and allow calls and texts only from specific contacts. This promotes a focused learning environment while ensuring children can still reach out in emergencies.
While Google hasn’t specified exactly which devices will get this update, it’s a welcome addition for parents looking for more control over their children’s digital habits.
This move builds on Google’s commitment to providing robust parental control tools, as demonstrated by the Family Link redesign in 2022. If you’re an Apple user seeking similar features, check out the Schooltime feature available within the Apple ecosystem.
