Apple is reportedly negotiating with Google to license its Gemini large language model (LLM) for upcoming iPhone software upgrades, according to a Bloomberg report. This potential partnership would bolster Apple’s AI capabilities with cloud-based generative text and image features.
Apple and Google are discussing a deal that extends beyond their current search engine agreement. This collaboration would mark a significant shift in the tech giants’ relationship. Notably, Apple is also developing its own on-device AI solutions for iOS 18 as part of its strategy to reduce reliance on third-party providers.
While Google has already inked a deal with Samsung to utilize Gemini and Imagen 2 for features in its Galaxy S24 line, Apple’s partnership could take a different direction.
Apple is also reportedly in talks with ChatGPT creator OpenAI, indicating that it might explore multiple AI solutions for the iPhone.
