Google Meet’s new trick: AI will take notes for you

Say goodbye to scribbling frantically during meetings! Google Meet has just unveiled a new feature that will have AI doing the note-taking for you. Powered by Google’s Gemini AI, this feature, aptly named “Take notes for me,” is currently being rolled out to select paying Google Workspace users.

Forget about designating someone to take minutes or struggling to keep up with the conversation. With this new tool, all you have to do is click the pencil icon in the top right corner of your Meet screen, and the AI will take care of the rest. A blue icon will appear, letting all attendees know that the AI note-taker is on duty. You can even click on the icon to peek at the notes as they’re being generated in real-time.

Once the meeting wraps up, you’ll find a neatly organized document attached to the Google Calendar event, and the meeting organizer will receive an email with a link to it. It’s a convenient way to ensure everyone has access to the key takeaways without any extra effort. And if you happen to record or transcribe the meeting, those links will be included in the document as well.

For now, this AI note-taking magic is limited to meetings conducted in spoken English. But hey, it’s a start! And with Google’s track record of innovation, we can expect even more exciting AI-powered features to grace Meet in the future.

This announcement follows a series of AI-powered upgrades across Google’s suite of products. From AI summaries in Files to the “Polish” tool in Gmail, Google is clearly on a mission to make our digital lives easier and more efficient with the help of artificial intelligence.
