Google Maps adds long-awaited hazard reporting to CarPlay

Google Maps finally brings hazard reporting to CarPlay, years after its debut on iOS and Android apps. This highly anticipated feature allows drivers to quickly report incidents like lane closures and accidents while using Google Maps on CarPlay.

While Apple Maps has offered this functionality since 2021, Google Maps users on CarPlay have been limited to viewing existing reports but couldn’t contribute their own. This omission was particularly frustrating given the feature’s potential usefulness in a driving context.

Thankfully, this oversight is being rectified, as Google Maps is gradually rolling out incident reporting for CarPlay users. While the rollout is ongoing, it’s unclear when all users will have access. Interestingly, Android Auto users are still waiting for this feature to become available on their platform.

With the new feature, drivers will see a hazard sign icon that, when tapped, provides quick controls for reporting various incidents, including crashes, road obstructions, construction zones, and speed traps.

This addition follows a recent trend of feature parity between Google Maps on different platforms. Previously, Google Maps introduced a speedometer feature on Android, which has now been extended to iOS.
