Gemini gets smarter and sleeker with the contextual overlay panel

Gemini is getting a fresh look with the introduction of a floating overlay panel, subtly announced through a distinctive glow animation. This sleek new feature, first unveiled at Google I/O 2024, enables Gemini’s responses to appear directly on your screen, preserving context and minimizing disruption.

The overlay panel seamlessly integrates with Gemini’s image generation capabilities, allowing you to effortlessly drag and drop creations into other apps. If you prefer a more traditional view, simply tap the top-right corner to switch to the full-screen interface.

Moreover, when using Gemini with YouTube videos, the “Ask about this screen” chip has been replaced with an “Ask about this video” chip, enabling you to interact with Gemini while enjoying your video content.

Currently, the availability of the floating overlay with the new glow is limited, but Google has confirmed a wider rollout in the coming weeks for both Gemini users and Gemini Advanced subscribers. So keep an eye out for that telltale glow – it’s your signal that Gemini’s got a new trick up its sleeve!
