As smartphone makers gear up for a busy April, attention is shifting to CMF, a sub-brand of Nothing, which appears ready to make another move in the competitive budget smartphone space. A new teaser released on April 3 has stirred speculation that CMF will soon unveil its second smartphone, potentially dubbed the CMF Phone 2, building on the release of the first CMF handset from July 2024.
The teaser, shared via CMF by Nothing’s official X (formerly Twitter) account, features a vibrant orange animation focusing on the phone’s camera housing. The accompanying text—“In search of the perfect shot. Coming soon.”—hints at a camera-centric approach for the new model. While no specs or product name were officially confirmed, clues surfaced shortly after on Flipkart, the Indian online retail giant, where a product page briefly went live before being pulled down.
For fans of affordable smartphones with solid features, the CMF Phone 2 could offer an attractive combination of price and performance. Rumors suggest the phone will sport a 6.67-inch AMOLED display with Full HD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate, ensuring smooth visuals and responsive touch interaction. It’s expected to run on the MediaTek Dimensity 7400 chipset, supported by a 5,000mAh battery and 33W fast charging—specs that align it well within the upper mid-range category for Android devices.
What really sets the device apart, however, is its potential camera setup. If leaks are accurate, the CMF Phone 2 will feature a triple-lens rear camera, including a 50MP main sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide lens, and a 2MP macro shooter. On the front, a 16MP selfie camera is reportedly planned. These specs would position the device as one of the more capable camera phones in its price range, making it particularly appealing to photography enthusiasts on a budget.
Color-wise, the teaser’s orange theme aligns with the design language seen in the previous CMF Phone 1, suggesting this vibrant option will return, potentially alongside other colors. In addition to the smartphone, CMF may also introduce new accessories, such as wireless earbuds and a smartwatch, at the same event—though these details remain speculative for now.
The device is likely to run Android with the Nothing OS overlay, incorporating features like the Essential Key found on other Nothing phones. This software skin is known for its minimalist design and smooth user experience, characteristics that have helped the brand carve out a niche among Android enthusiasts.
While the exact release date remains unknown, the timing of the teaser and recent retail leak suggest that the CMF Phone 2 could be officially announced within the month.
