In a testament to the growing influence of AI chatbots, OpenAI has announced that its ChatGPT platform now boasts over 200 million weekly active users. This figure, confirmed to The Verge by OpenAI spokesperson Taya Christianson, marks a significant doubling of the user base since November of last year.
The impressive growth underscores ChatGPT’s widespread appeal, even in the face of increasing competition from tech giants like Google, Microsoft, and Meta, who have all launched their own AI chat interfaces.
Further highlighting the platform’s success, Christianson revealed that a remarkable 92% of Fortune 500 companies are currently utilizing OpenAI’s products. Additionally, the company has seen a twofold increase in API usage since the July release of its GPT-4o Mini model, a more affordable and capable alternative to its predecessor.
While OpenAI is experiencing substantial growth, it’s worth noting that other players in the AI chatbot arena are also making significant strides. A recent report from The Information suggests that Meta’s AI assistant boasts an impressive 400 million monthly active users and 40 million daily active users.
Furthermore, there are reports that Apple and Nvidia could be among the investors participating in OpenAI’s next funding round, further solidifying the company’s position in the rapidly evolving AI landscape.
