Qualcomm has expanded its Snapdragon X Series with the launch of the Snapdragon X Platform, designed to bring AI capabilities and improved performance to more affordable PCs. Targeting devices in the $600 price range, this new platform promises to make AI-powered computing accessible to a wider audience.

The Snapdragon X Platform features an 8-core Qualcomm Oryon CPU and a dedicated AI engine (NPU) capable of handling 45 trillion operations per second (TOPS). Qualcomm claims the platform delivers significantly faster performance compared to similar processors while consuming less power, resulting in multi-day battery life. It also includes a power-efficient GPU suitable for everyday tasks like streaming, web browsing, and light content creation.

In a notable expansion of the Snapdragon X Series, Qualcomm announced the development of mini desktop PCs powered by the new platform. These compact and portable devices are intended to cater to various users, including consumers, developers, and businesses. This move reflects a growing trend towards smaller form factors in the PC market.

The Snapdragon X Series continues to build its AI ecosystem, with over 50 AI-driven features now supported on Windows 11. These include native apps for various functionalities like VPNs, security, cloud storage, and music production. Qualcomm reports increasing developer interest in the platform, with exclusive apps like Moises Live leveraging Snapdragon’s AI capabilities for music creation.

Laptops powered by the Snapdragon X Platform are expected to arrive in early 2025 from brands like Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, and Lenovo. Qualcomm positions these devices as ideal for students, freelancers, and budget-conscious users who require performance and long battery life.

Qualcomm’s focus on bringing AI capabilities to more affordable PCs could significantly impact the market, making advanced computing features accessible to a wider range of users. While real-world performance and user reception remain to be seen, the Snapdragon X Platform has the potential to democratize AI in personal computing.
