Apple releases watchOS 11.4 with smart alarm and matter vacuum support

Apple has begun rolling out watchOS 11.4, the latest software update for Apple Watch, bringing a few modest yet meaningful improvements to the experience. While it may not include sweeping changes, the update introduces three new features that enhance daily usability and convenience for Apple Watch users — particularly for those who rely on smart home integration or use their device in Silent Mode.

Perhaps the most notable addition in watchOS 11.4 is a new Sleep Wake Up alarm feature that works even when Silent Mode is enabled. Previously, keeping your Apple Watch in Silent Mode meant relying solely on haptic feedback for alerts and alarms. Now, users can choose to allow the wake-up alarm to break through that silence, enabling an audible tone even when the rest of the watch stays quiet. It’s a small but welcome change for those who don’t want to miss their morning alarm while keeping notifications discreet during the night or work hours.

The update also adds support for Matter-compatible robot vacuum cleaners, continuing Apple’s push to expand HomeKit functionality. With this update, you can now integrate supported robot vacuums into the Home app, assign them to automation scenes, or activate them using Siri voice commands — for example, “Siri, clean the kitchen.” This integration adds more flexibility for users managing smart home devices directly from their wrist.

For those who enjoy personal expression, watchOS 11.4 includes seven new emoji, which match those introduced across other Apple platforms in updates like iOS 18.4 and macOS 15.4. These new symbols expand the emoji keyboard, offering more ways to communicate directly from your watch.

Additionally, Apple addressed a bug fix involving watch face selection, resolving an issue where users experienced unresponsiveness when switching between faces — a minor glitch, but one that impacted the smoothness of the experience for some.

While the update’s rollout had a brief hiccup — Apple initially listed watchOS 11.4 as available before briefly removing it from its website — the update is now officially live again for all users. If you haven’t received a notification, you can manually check for the update by opening the Watch app on your iPhone and navigating to General > Software Update.

watchOS 11.4 may be light in terms of flashy new tools, but its blend of quiet quality-of-life enhancements, smart home integration, and user-requested features make it a worthwhile install for Apple Watch users aiming for more control and comfort from their wrist.
