Apple Maps expands to the web with beta launch

Apple has finally launched Apple Maps on the web, marking a significant expansion of the platform’s accessibility.Currently in beta, the web version is compatible with Safari and Chrome on Mac and iPad, as well as Chrome and Edge on Windows PCs. While initially limited to English, Apple plans to add more languages and browser support in the future.

This move brings Apple Maps to a broader audience, as it was previously available exclusively as an app on Apple devices. Although the beta version currently lacks public transportation and cycling directions, along with Look Around (Apple’s version of Street View), these features are expected to be added later.

The web version still offers several valuable features, including driving and walking directions, detailed information about businesses with photos, hours, ratings, and reviews, and the ability to order food directly from the map. It also provides satellite, standard, and hybrid views of locations worldwide.

Developers can now integrate links to Apple Maps on the web into their apps, allowing users to easily access directions and location information.

The launch of Apple Maps on the web represents a major step forward for the platform, which had a rocky start in 2012.Since then, Apple has invested significantly in improving Apple Maps, turning it into a viable competitor to Google Maps. This expansion to the web is expected to further enhance its reach and usability.
