Sennheiser Accentum Plus: upgraded features, great sound – should you buy it?

When Sennheiser launched the excellent Accentum headphones in late 2023, it seemed to prioritize streamlined choices. They provided great sound and active noise cancellation (ANC) at a more budget-friendly price than the company’s flagship Momentum 4 Wireless. The tradeoff included slightly smaller drivers and some missing luxuries like a carrying case and touch controls. Now, the new Accentum Plus bridges that gap, giving buyers who crave a few extra features another attractive option within the same, well-priced family.

So what exactly sets the Accentum Plus apart?

The most tangible difference is the newly included carrying case – helpful for frequent travelers or anyone who throws their headphones into a bag regularly. Additionally, you now get touch controls on the earcups for convenient media control and adaptive noise cancellation, intelligently adjusting to your surroundings. Finally, a 3.5mm audio jack lets you connect when Bluetooth isn’t an option, and a smart pause system conserves battery by automatically pausing when you remove the headphones.

Importantly, this isn’t an upgrade path for existing Accentum owners – rather, it offers a slightly tweaked feature set aimed toward new buyers with an emphasis on convenience. Everything else that made the Accentum a hit remains in place. These include outstanding 50-hour battery life with quick charging, a sleek and modern design, and the same audio drivers providing the well-balanced and genre-friendly soundstage praised in the original. That balanced sound is a definite selling point, effortlessly handling anything from bass-heavy tracks to nuanced classical pieces.

The adaptive noise cancellation, while a welcome addition, might not be a dramatic leap compared to the standard Accentum. The touch controls, like their implementation on the Momentum 4, could feel somewhat fiddly depending on individual preferences. Regardless, with consistent software updates and the additional perks like the carrying case, the Accentum Plus positions itself as a worthy contender.

Sennheiser’s signature sonic balance truly shines in the Accentum Plus. Each note is rendered with pristine clarity across a wide, immersive soundstage. During tests, we effortlessly transitioned from the thumping beats of Justice’s newest tracks to the nuanced beauty of cello solos. The headphones handled it all with ease, delivering rich, impactful audio without a hint of strain. Bass lovers will be delighted with the solid, controlled low-end response, making these a superb choice for those who bounce between genres without needing to adjust their headphones.

While features like adaptive noise cancellation are appreciated, they take a backseat to the pure joy of audio reproduction. Whether traveling on a crowded train or relaxing at home, the Accentum Plus offers a listening experience that rivals far pricier models.

Features

  • On-the-go sound adventure – Recharging your ACCENTUM Plus takes as much as ordering a coffee to go, just plug them in for 10min for 5 hours of playtime.
  • Enjoy unrivaled 50-hour battery playtime on a single full charge.
  • Immersive sound stage – Angled transducers create a wider soundstage for a more immersive listening experience.
  • Listen anywhere without distractions – Adaptive Hybrid ANC adjusts dynamically to changing noise levels to ensure noise-free listening in noisy or busy environments.
  • Tailor your listening experience – Match your hearing with Sound Personalization . Plus customize even more with sound modes or via the built-in 5 Band equalizer.
  • Effortlessly smart interaction – Touch controls, automatic anti-wind mode, and Smart Pause ensure effortless use.

The Accentum Plus strikes a compelling balance. The slight price increase feels justified by the convenience features, especially the inclusion of a case. If you need the extra portability and easy controls, the Plus version makes sense. However, if those aren’t deal-breakers for you and you favor the absolute lowest price, the original Accentum still delivers impressive value for the quality.

The Accentum Plus is available in black or white color options.
