JBL Live 780NC and 680NC bring practical ANC updates

JBL has launched two new wireless headphones in India, the over-ear Live 780NC and the on-ear Live 680NC, targeting listeners seeking solid noise cancellation, extended battery life, and some spatial audio capabilities without excessive complexity. Both models build on JBL’s established approach to consumer audio, offering 40mm dynamic drivers and support for JBL Spatial Sound 3.0, which aims to create a more enveloping experience for music, films, and spoken content.

The headphones include Personi-Fi 3.0 for basic sound personalization based on user hearing profiles, a feature that has become more common across mid-range audio gear in recent years. Noise cancellation comes via True Adaptive Noise Cancelling 2.0, with the Live 780NC employing six microphones and the Live 680NC using four for ambient sound detection. This setup performs environmental monitoring and reduction, though real-world effectiveness often depends on fit and specific listening conditions rather than specification sheets alone. For calls, two beamforming microphones pair with an AI-trained noise reduction system to enhance voice clarity, addressing a persistent challenge in busy environments where background interference can still creep in.

Connectivity options include Bluetooth 6.0, multipoint pairing, Auracast broadcast support, and LDAC for higher-resolution audio on compatible devices. These represent incremental improvements over older Bluetooth standards, providing better stability and efficiency in modern usage scenarios involving multiple devices. Battery life stands out as a practical strength, with up to 80 hours of playback without ANC and around 50 hours with it active. A five-minute quick charge delivers about four hours of use, which aligns well with the demands of daily commutes or travel.

The Live 780NC, as the larger over-ear option, offers more passive isolation by design, while the on-ear Live 680NC prioritizes a lighter, more portable form factor that may trade some comfort during extended sessions for easier everyday carry. Both come in seven color variants including Black, Blue, White, Champagne, Green, Orange, and Purple, reflecting the ongoing trend toward personal expression in consumer electronics. Pricing positions them in the accessible premium segment at roughly Rs 15,999 for the 780NC and Rs 11,999 for the 680NC.

Pre-bookings for the Live 780NC started on June 18 via JBL’s site and Amazon, with an initial discount and extended warranty incentive, while general availability begins during Amazon Prime Day. The Live 680NC follows on July 15 through major retailers. In a market crowded with ANC headphones from various brands, these models emphasize endurance and adaptability over outright innovation, serving as reliable choices for users who value long sessions without frequent recharges. Compared to earlier JBL Live series entries, the refinements in microphone arrays and codec support feel evolutionary, helping them compete against similarly priced alternatives that often focus on either bass-heavy tuning or lighter designs.

That said, potential buyers should consider how the on-ear model holds up under prolonged wear and whether the spatial audio delivers noticeable benefits beyond standard stereo in their preferred content. Overall, the pair reflects JBL’s steady refinement of familiar formulas rather than a major departure.
