Tesla Model Y L six-seater launches in UAE

Tesla has opened orders for the Model Y L Premium in the UAE, a stretched six-seat version of its popular electric SUV priced from AED 224,990. Customer deliveries are not scheduled until November 2026, which introduces a significant wait for buyers needing extra seating sooner. Positioned roughly AED 50,000 above the five-seat Model Y Premium RWD and AED 20,000 more than the Long Range AWD, the new variant extends the wheelbase by 150 mm and overall length by 179 mm to create a genuine three-row layout without widening the vehicle.

These dimensional changes bring measurable improvements in rear accommodation. Second-row headroom increases by 70 mm, shoulder room by 20 mm, and larger doors plus quarter windows improve access to the third row. The 2+2+2 seating arrangement features second-row captain’s chairs equipped with heating, ventilation, eight-way power adjustment, powered armrests, and up to 125 degrees of recline. An 8-inch touchscreen serves rear passengers for climate and entertainment, while the third row adds power recline, one-touch folding, and dedicated climate control. Such attention to rear comfort stands out against many three-row SUVs where the back seats often feel like an afterthought.

Cargo practicality also benefits. Tesla quotes a maximum of 2,539 litres with seats folded. Even with all six occupied, the rear holds two large suitcases plus a cabin trolley, with additional space in the front trunk. This setup could suit UAE families managing school runs, weekend getaways, or airport transfers, offering more versatility than the standard Model Y while retaining a relatively compact footprint.

Standard features include a 16-inch central touchscreen, heated and ventilated front seats with thigh extensions, acoustic glass, a 19-speaker audio system, and a cooled 50W wireless charger. Safety provisions encompass side curtain airbags across rows, reinforced structure, Autosteer, traffic-aware cruise control, and automatic emergency braking. The vehicle comes hardware-ready for supervised Full Self-Driving, though the software remains a separate paid upgrade pending local approval. Performance holds steady with a claimed WLTP range of 681 km, 0-100 kph in 5.0 seconds, and adaptive suspension for balanced ride quality.

Yet several practical considerations temper the appeal. The long wait until late 2026 means families requiring six seats in the coming year may turn to immediately available hybrid or electric alternatives already in UAE showrooms. The Model Y L Premium also misses current free Supercharging promotions available on some other Tesla models, leaving owners to handle pay-per-use or home charging costs. In a market with expanding but still developing EV infrastructure, real-world range and convenience will depend heavily on individual driving patterns and charging access.

Compared with the rest of the Model Y range, the six-seater makes sense primarily for those who regularly need the extra seats. For occasional use, the added premium may not justify itself against simpler five-seat options or even the Model 3. Tesla continues adapting its lineup to regional family preferences, but the extended timeline highlights the gap between announcement and actual availability in competitive markets.
