Google appears to be testing a standalone “Google Gemini” app for iPhone users, signaling a potential shift away from its current integration within the main Google app. This dedicated app, spotted by a user in the Philippines, offers a glimpse of what might be in store for Gemini on iOS.
Currently, iPhone users access Gemini through a dedicated tab within the Google app or via a shortcut in the Google app’s homescreen widget. This new standalone app, however, provides a more direct and integrated experience.
One of the most notable features of this standalone app is the inclusion of “Gemini Live,” a voice-driven AI experience not yet available in the integrated version. Screenshots reveal Gemini Live in action, utilizing a Live Activity to remain active even when users switch to other apps. This suggests a more seamless and interactive AI experience on iPhones.

While the app has only been sighted in the Philippines, its appearance suggests a broader rollout may be on the horizon. The dedicated app could allow Google to deliver faster updates and improvements to Gemini on iOS, potentially bringing it closer in functionality to the Android experience.
This move mirrors Google’s approach with Google Assistant, which also exists as a standalone app on iOS. By separating Gemini from the main Google app, Google could provide a more focused and streamlined experience for iPhone users, further solidifying its presence in the competitive AI landscape.
