Signal, the popular privacy-focused messaging app known for its end-to-end encryption, has introduced a new feature that simplifies group calling. With the addition of call links, users can now easily initiate and join group calls without the need to create a group chat beforehand.
To create a call link, users simply navigate to the calls tab and select “create a call link.” They can then customize the link with a name and choose whether to require approval for participants to join. Call links support up to 50 participants and can be reused indefinitely, providing flexibility for recurring calls.
In addition to call links, Signal has incorporated other enhancements inspired by popular video conferencing platforms. Users can now “raise hand” during calls and share emoji reactions to provide quick feedback. A dedicated calls tab on the home screen offers a centralized view of call history.
The desktop app has also received updates, with new viewing options for call participants, including grid view, sidebar view, and speaker view. Furthermore, Signal has redesigned the call control buttons for easier access to camera and microphone controls, speaker source management, and more.
These new features are available in the latest version of Signal for Android, iOS, and desktop platforms. With these updates, Signal aims to provide a more streamlined and user-friendly calling experience while maintaining its commitment to privacy and security.
