Samsung rumored to be developing an ultra-thin Galaxy S25

A new report suggests that Samsung is joining the race to create the slimmest smartphone. The company is reportedly working on an ultra-thin version of the Galaxy S25, tentatively dubbed the Galaxy S25 Slim.

This development comes amid rumors that Apple is also planning to release an ultra-thin iPhone, possibly called the iPhone 17 Air, in late 2025. However, Samsung’s slimmed-down Galaxy S25 could beat Apple to the punch, potentially launching as early as the second quarter of 2025.

According to the report, Samsung plans to initially produce a limited number of Galaxy S25 Slim units to gauge market demand. This strategy allows the company to assess the viability of ultra-thin smartphones before committing to larger production runs for future models like the Galaxy S26.

While details about the Galaxy S25 Slim are scarce, it’s likely that the phone will prioritize design over top-of-the-line specifications. Similar to the rumored iPhone 17 Air, the Galaxy S25 Slim may feature a less powerful processor and a reduced camera setup compared to the standard Galaxy S25 model.

Interestingly, this move by Samsung could be seen as both a trendsetter and a follower. While the Galaxy S25 Slim might hit the market before Apple’s iPhone 17 Air, the concept of an ultra-thin, design-focused smartphone appears to be originating from Apple.

The pursuit of slimmer smartphones raises questions about the trade-offs involved. Reducing thickness often necessitates compromises in battery capacity, camera capabilities, and overall performance. It remains to be seen whether consumers will prioritize thinness over these other features.

With both Samsung and Apple reportedly developing ultra-thin smartphones, a new battleground is emerging in the smartphone market. It will be interesting to see how these devices are received by consumers and whether this trend will reshape the future of smartphone design.
