Samsung launches slimmer, more powerful Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition

Samsung has surprised the tech world with the launch of a special edition Galaxy Z Fold in its home market of Korea. This new iteration of the foldable flagship boasts a slimmer design, enhanced camera capabilities, and subtle display upgrades.

The Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition slims down by 1.5 millimeters compared to the standard Galaxy Z Fold 6, while shedding a minimal 3 grams of weight. This refined profile is achieved without sacrificing battery capacity, which remains at a respectable 4,400 mAh. The special edition is exclusively available in a “shadow black” color with a distinctive pinstripe pattern on the rear glass, adding a touch of sophistication.

The cover screen has been slightly enlarged to 6.48 inches (up from 6.3 inches), while the inner foldable display now measures approximately 8 inches, compared to 7.6 inches on the Galaxy Z Fold 6. Both displays also see minor resolution bumps.

The most significant upgrade lies in the camera department. The special edition features a 200-megapixel primary camera, a substantial leap from the 50-megapixel sensor found in the standard model. The remaining camera setup remains unchanged, with a 12-megapixel ultrawide lens and a 10-megapixel telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom.

Under the hood, the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Mobile Platform for Galaxy, paired with a generous 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. Samsung claims the device utilizes armor aluminum for increased durability and maintains an IP48 rating for dust and water resistance.

Priced at KRW 2,789,600 (approximately $2,024 USD), the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition carries a slight premium over the standard model. It will be available in Korea starting October 24th, with no information yet on global availability.
