After announcing that the new standard in wireless charing, Qi2 will be compatible on the iPhone 15, it seems that Apple is opening up support for all iPhone 13 models and iPhone 14 models.
As spotted iOS 17.2 RC (release candidate), the release notes included an update which stated that “Qi2 charger support for all iPhone 13 models and iPhone 14 models.”
What does this mean? Until now, 15W on these models was only possible through MagSafe-certified chargers, whereas all other wireless chargers were limited to 7.5W. But now, with the new update, users will be able to opt in for more affordable chargers and get the full 15W with the upcoming Qi2-certified chargers.
Qi2 is a MagSafe-like wireless fast charging standard for iOS and Android devices that was announced in CES earlier this year.
