OpenAI has released GPT-4.5, a new AI model that boasts a broader knowledge base, stronger alignment with user intent, and improved emotional intelligence. While it represents a significant advancement in AI capabilities, it also comes with some caveats.
GPT-4.5 excels in tasks such as writing, programming, and problem-solving. It exhibits a more natural and intuitive conversational style and hallucinates less than its predecessors. However, it is also more computationally intensive, resulting in potentially slower response times and higher API pricing.
Currently, GPT-4.5 does not support the multimodal features available in other ChatGPT models, such as Voice Mode, video tools, and screen sharing. OpenAI has not yet announced when these features might be integrated.
The rollout of GPT-4.5 will be tiered, starting with ChatGPT Professional subscribers on February 27th, 2025.ChatGPT Plus and Team subscribers will gain access in early March, followed by Enterprise and Edu subscribers.
Many experts believe that GPT-4.5 serves as a stepping stone to the highly anticipated GPT-5, expected to launch later this year. GPT-5 is rumored to be the first AI system to achieve artificial general intelligence, and GPT-4.5, along with other recent models like GPT o3 and o3-mini, are likely contributing to its development.
