In a significant boost to the UAE’s artificial intelligence ambitions, Microsoft has partnered with government entities in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Sharjah to launch the AI National Skills Initiative. This comprehensive program aims to upskill 100,000 government employees over the next 12 months, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to leverage AI effectively in their roles.

Announced at GITEX Global 2024, the initiative underscores the UAE’s commitment to becoming a global leader in AI innovation. The program offers tailored training for various roles within government departments, from organizational leaders to frontline workers. By focusing on practical applications and addressing specific knowledge gaps, the training aims to drive AI fluency across the public sector.

Personalized Learning Powered by Microsoft Technology

Leveraging Microsoft’s AI technology, the program will provide personalized learning experiences. This approach ensures that each participant receives relevant training adapted to their individual needs and skill levels. The goal is to empower employees to seamlessly integrate AI into their daily work, fostering a culture of innovation and digital transformation within government.

This initiative aligns with the UAE’s National Strategy for Artificial Intelligence 2031, which outlines the country’s vision for AI development and adoption. By investing in the skills of its public sector workforce, the UAE aims to unlock the full potential of AI to enhance public services and drive economic growth.

Bridging the AI Skills Gap

Naim Yazbeck, General Manager of Microsoft UAE, emphasized the importance of skilling in achieving the UAE’s AI ambitions. “AI is transforming industries worldwide,” he stated. “Equipping government employees with AI skills is essential for the UAE to capitalize on the opportunities this technology presents.”

The AI National Skills Initiative builds on Microsoft’s broader commitment to democratizing AI skills. The company recently launched the AI Skills Navigator, a comprehensive online platform providing personalized AI learning paths. The platform offers access to over 200 free learning resources, including content from Microsoft Learn, LinkedIn Learning, and GitHub.

Showcasing AI Innovation at GITEX

At GITEX Global 2024, Microsoft is showcasing its commitment to AI innovation with “Sawa,” a generative AI application designed to enhance community well-being and engagement in the UAE. This application allows users to learn about the UAE, access government services, manage their health, and even contribute to the upkeep of public infrastructure.
