JBL goes bigger and louder with the PartyBox 720

If Samsung set the stage with lights, JBL stormed in with sheer size. The company’s PartyBox line has long been the standard-bearer for anyone who wants their music to arrive with a physical presence, and the newly announced PartyBox 720 is the largest battery-powered model JBL has ever produced. At IFA 2025, the 720 stood out not just for its imposing dimensions but also for what it represents: a clear push to dominate both indoor and outdoor party audio.

Compared to its predecessor, the PartyBox 710, the new 720 is seven pounds heavier, making it a formidable presence in both weight and sound. The increase in mass comes with a tangible benefit: the subwoofer has grown from eight to nine inches, promising a deeper and more resonant bass response. This kind of upgrade is significant because low-end punch is the cornerstone of the PartyBox brand, and the new driver should give the 720 an edge when filling large spaces or outdoor environments with rich, club-like sound.

But the biggest change is not in acoustics alone—it’s in autonomy. Unlike the 710, which needed to be plugged in to deliver full power, the PartyBox 720 runs on a pair of swappable rechargeable 600 batteries. Together, they allow for up to fifteen hours of continuous playtime without a cable in sight. That transforms the PartyBox 720 from a backyard or garage speaker into a genuine festival-ready, campsite-compatible powerhouse. Of course, how long those batteries last in real-world use will depend on how aggressively owners push the lighting modes and bass boost settings, but the promise of portability at this size is an undeniable selling point.

The decision to go fully battery-powered also reflects a broader trend in consumer audio. People want freedom—freedom from cords, freedom from sockets, and freedom to carry the party wherever it needs to go. JBL already dominates the rugged Bluetooth speaker segment, but the PartyBox 720 is its way of saying that even at the extreme high end, flexibility matters as much as volume. For those who want uncompromising sound and showmanship without being tied to an outlet, JBL is offering what could be the definitive solution.
