iPhone 16 DIY repairs now possible with Apple’s Self-Service Program

Apple has expanded its self-service repair program to include the entire iPhone 16 lineup. Customers in the U.S. and many European countries can now order genuine Apple parts and tools to perform their own repairs on the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max.

This announcement comes approximately seven weeks after the devices were officially launched. Available parts include displays, batteries, rear camera systems, TrueDepth camera modules, back glass panels, speakers, microphones, and more.

To assist with the repair process, Apple provides detailed repair manuals for each iPhone 16 model. These manuals were released in September, ahead of the parts availability, allowing users to familiarize themselves with the intricacies of the devices.

For those who don’t want to purchase tools outright, Apple offers tool kits for rent. These kits are available for a seven-day period and are priced at $49 in the United States.

Apple’s self-service repair program was first introduced in 2022, initially offering parts and tools for a limited selection of iPhones and Macs, as well as the Studio Display. The program aims to empower tech-savvy individuals who are comfortable with the complexities of electronic device repair.

It’s important to note that Apple emphasizes the program is designed for individuals with experience in electronics repair. The company includes warnings and safety information within its repair manuals, highlighting the potential risks involved.
