iOS 18’s new camera update brings pause and resume video recordings feature

In a long-awaited update, iOS 18 will finally allow iPhone users to pause and resume video recordings directly in the Camera app. This seemingly small but significant addition addresses a longstanding frustration for many iPhone users who have had to resort to workarounds or multiple clips to achieve a similar effect.

The new pause button will be conveniently located within the Camera app interface, allowing for seamless pausing and resuming of video capture. The feature was first spotted in the iOS 18 Release Candidate build, which was released shortly after Apple’s “It’s Glowtime” event on September 9th.

While it’s surprising that such a basic feature has taken this long to arrive, its inclusion will undoubtedly streamline the video recording process for many. Now, instead of having to stop and start multiple recordings, users can simply pause and resume their video as needed. This is especially useful for capturing events with natural breaks or for creating more dynamic and creative videos.

It’s worth noting that the new pause feature is not tied to the Camera Control button introduced on the iPhone 16 models. While Camera Control offers various functionalities like starting/stopping recording and adjusting zoom, pausing is exclusively handled within the Camera app itself.

This exciting addition to iOS 18 comes alongside a slew of other new features and improvements. Users can look forward to enhanced Home Screen and Control Center customization options, a revamped Photos app, and the highly anticipated Apple Intelligence feature, set to arrive in October with iOS 18.1.

iOS 18, along with iPadOS 18, watchOS 11, and macOS Sequoia, is scheduled to be released to the public on September 16th. Get ready to experience a more versatile and user-friendly iPhone with these upcoming updates.
