Humane Ai Pin discontinued after less than a year

Humane has announced the discontinuation of its Ai Pin wearable device, less than a year after its launch in April 2024. The device will cease to function on February 28, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. Pacific Time.

Users are advised to back up any data stored on their Ai Pin devices before the shutdown date, as all data will be deleted after that time. Humane is offering refunds only to customers who purchased the device on or after November 15, 2024, and are within the 90-day return window.

The discontinuation comes as Humane is being acquired by HP. HP’s purchase includes Humane’s CosmOS AI platform, patents, and employees, but not the Ai Pin hardware.

Humane has faced criticism for its decision not to offer refunds to the majority of Ai Pin customers, who paid $700 for a device that has become essentially useless within a year. The company has recommended that users recycle their Ai Pins through e-waste programs.

The Ai Pin’s short lifespan raises questions about the viability of wearable AI devices and the challenges faced by companies in this emerging market.
