Google introduces Gemini 2.5, a new AI reasoning model

Google has introduced its latest advancement in artificial intelligence, Gemini 2.5, marking a significant leap in AI reasoning capabilities. The company’s new AI model, particularly the experimental version of Gemini 2.5 Pro, has demonstrated exceptional performance, currently holding the top position on the LMArena leaderboard. This achievement places it ahead of other prominent AI models, including Grok 3, GPT-4.5, and DeepSeek-R1.

Gemini 2.5 Pro is designed to excel in tasks that require advanced reasoning, such as analyzing information, drawing logical conclusions, incorporating context and nuance, and making informed decisions. In rigorous tests, including math and science evaluations like GPQA and AIME 2025, Gemini 2.5 Pro has outperformed its competitors. Notably, it achieved a record-breaking 18.8% score on Humanity’s Last Exam.

Beyond its reasoning prowess, Gemini 2.5 Pro exhibits enhanced coding capabilities. The model is proficient in creating visually compelling web applications and agentic code applications, as well as in performing code transformation and editing. Google showcased the model’s coding abilities through a demonstration of a game demo built using Gemini 2.5 Pro.

A significant upgrade in Gemini 2.5 is its expanded context window, which can now process up to 1 million tokens, with plans to extend this to 2 million tokens in the near future. This expanded capacity allows the model to analyze large datasets encompassing text, audio, images, video, and even entire code repositories.

According to Koray Kavukcuoglu, CTO of Google DeepMind, Gemini 2.5 represents a new level of performance achieved through a combination of an enhanced base model and improved post-training. Google aims to integrate these advanced reasoning capabilities into all its future models, enabling them to handle more complex problems and support more capable, context-aware agents.

The experimental version of Gemini 2.5 Pro is currently accessible through Google AI Studio and the Gemini app for Gemini Advanced users. Google plans to extend access to Vertex AI in the near future. Pricing details for Gemini 2.5 Pro will be announced in the coming weeks.
