Google Chat introduces huddles for quick audio conversations

Google Chat is enhancing its communication features with the addition of Huddles, a new way to initiate quick audio conversations. Similar to features found in Slack and Microsoft Teams, Huddles provide a streamlined approach to audio-first meetings, eliminating the need for formal scheduling and invitations.

Available in direct messages, group messages, and spaces, Huddles allow users to seamlessly transition from text-based chat to audio conversations. With a simple click, users can start a Huddle and engage in real-time discussions. Huddles also support video and screen sharing for those who need a richer communication experience.

Google has designed Huddles to integrate seamlessly with the Chat interface. The existing Meet video button in the compose bar has been relocated to the Chat header, providing a central location to start regular calls, Huddles, or share Meet links. When invited to a Huddle, users will see a chat chip in their message thread, making it easy to join the conversation.

This new feature is available to a wide range of Google Workspace customers, including Business, Enterprise, Frontline, Essentials, and Nonprofits. The rollout of Huddles has already begun for Rapid Release domains, with Scheduled Release domains to follow in early January.

With the introduction of Huddles, Google Chat offers a more dynamic and efficient way to connect and collaborate with colleagues. This feature streamlines communication, making it easier to jump into quick audio conversations and enhance teamwork.
