Gmail introduces AI-powered assistant to iOS, transforming inbox management

Gmail users on iOS can now experience the power of artificial intelligence with the introduction of a new Q&A feature powered by Google’s Gemini AI. This intelligent assistant, previously available on web and Android platforms, aims to streamline inbox management by providing users with an intuitive way to search, summarize, and extract information from their emails and connected Google Drive files.

With the Gemini-powered Q&A feature, users can simply ask questions about the contents of their inbox, such as “What’s the phone number I received from [sender name]?” or “Can you summarize the emails about the upcoming project meeting?” The AI assistant can also surface unread messages, filter emails by sender, and even provide answers to general knowledge questions directly within the Gmail interface.

This functionality offers a significant upgrade to traditional email search and filtering capabilities, making it easier for users to locate specific information buried within their inboxes and connected cloud storage. The AI assistant can understand the context of user queries and provide relevant results, saving users time and effort.

However, access to this advanced feature is currently limited. Only users with a Google One AI Premium subscription or Google Workspace accounts with specific Gemini add-ons (Business, Enterprise, Education, or Education Premium) can utilize the Q&A functionality. Google is gradually rolling out the feature to eligible users, but it may take some time for everyone to gain access.

The introduction of the Q&A feature on iOS marks another step in Google’s efforts to integrate AI across its suite of products and services. As AI technology continues to evolve, we can expect to see even more innovative features designed to enhance productivity and simplify our digital lives.
