Google’s Gemini AI is poised to become even more powerful with the addition of new features that give users greater control over image generation. Currently, Gemini, like many AI image generators, produces images in a 1:1 aspect ratio. This limitation often necessitates cropping to fit different applications and formats. However, a recent discovery within the Google app beta (v15.41.34.29.arm64) suggests that change is on the horizon.
The beta version reveals upcoming functionality that will allow users to modify the aspect ratio of Gemini-generated images. Options for common ratios like 16:9 (widescreen), 4:3 (traditional), 9:16 (portrait), and 3:4 will be readily available. But Gemini won’t simply crop the existing image; it will intelligently add or extend the image to fit the chosen aspect ratio, preserving the original subject while generating additional background details.
This enhanced control over aspect ratio is not the only improvement in store for Gemini. Google is also actively developing a suite of image editing tools to further refine generated images. These tools will reportedly include options to select specific areas for editing, providing users with more precision and flexibility in their creative process.
These advancements build upon Gemini’s recent upgrade from Imagen 2 to Imagen 3, Google’s most advanced text-to-image model. This upgrade brought enhanced image quality, realism, and detail to Gemini, making it a formidable player in the AI image generation field.
While no official release date for these new features has been announced, their presence in the beta app suggests that they are nearing deployment. With the addition of aspect ratio controls and advanced editing tools, Gemini AI is set to empower users with even greater creative freedom and control over their generated images.
