Is a new email service called XMail coming? In the aftermath of a viral Gmail shutdown hoax, Elon Musk suggested the possibility. Responding to a tweet from X security engineer Nate McGrady inquiring about an “XMail” launch, Musk simply replied, “It’s coming.”

While Musk’s statement is short on details, it raises questions about his intentions. The email market is already saturated, and X is currently juggling multiple feature developments such as online payments and video calls. Additionally, advertiser retention remains a challenge for the platform.
Some speculate that this move could be intended to draw users away from Google, known for occasionally discontinuing even popular products. This week, Musk specifically criticized Google’s Gemini AI chatbot for generating historically inaccurate images, calling it “insane racist, anti-civilizational programming.”
Whether Elon Musk will actually follow through on an XMail launch remains uncertain, but his response to the Gmail hoax certainly sparks conversation.
