Apple seeds iOS 18.2 Beta 3 with tweaks to Photos, TV App, and Camera controls

Apple has released the third beta version of iOS 18.2 and iPadOS 18.2 to developers, introducing a series of refinements and updates to various apps and features. While this beta is considered minor compared to the first two, it still offers several notable changes.

One of the key updates in iOS 18.2 beta 3 is a tweaked video player within the Photos app. This change eliminates the thick borders that previously surrounded videos, providing a more immersive viewing experience. Users no longer need to tap a video to enter full-screen playback.

The TV app on iPadOS has also received an update, allowing users to customize the navigation bar. This provides greater flexibility and personalization options for navigating content within the app.

For iPhone 16 models, iOS 18.2 beta 3 introduces a new setting for the Camera Control button. This setting, found under Display & Brightness, allows users to require the iPhone’s screen to be turned on in order to launch the Camera app or compatible third-party camera apps using the Camera Control button.

In preparation for the launch of next-generation CarPlay, iOS 18.2 beta 3 includes redesigned icons for the new “Climate” and “Media” apps. While Apple initially indicated that vehicles supporting next-generation CarPlay would arrive in 2024, a more specific timeframe has yet to be announced.

Other minor changes in this beta include a darker AirDrop icon in Dark Mode and resolved issues with AirTag, AirPods, and Find My accessories. Apple also appears to be enforcing device requirements for Apple Intelligence features more strictly.

A corresponding public beta of iOS 18.2 with these changes is expected to be released later this week, with the official public release slated for December.
