Apple now allows users to change primary email address in iOS 18.1

Apple’s iOS 18.1 update introduces a significant change for iPhone users: the ability to change the primary email address associated with their Apple accounts. This long-awaited feature provides greater flexibility and control over online identity management.

Previously, users were unable to modify their primary email address once it was set. This caused inconvenience for those who wanted to switch to a different address due to changing preferences or privacy concerns.

With iOS 18.1, users can now easily update their primary email address directly from their devices. The updated process allows for seamless switching between email addresses without the need to delete the old address or re-verify identity.

This update also addresses a privacy concern for users who relied on alias email addresses. In certain situations, such as sharing documents or sending calendar invitations, the primary email address would be revealed, even when using an alias. iOS 18.1 eliminates this issue, allowing users to maintain greater privacy.

Furthermore, the update enables users to deactivate a primary iCloud email address instead of deleting it entirely, providing additional flexibility in managing email preferences.

This change is a welcome improvement to Apple’s account management system, offering users greater control and convenience. The ability to change a primary email address is a fundamental feature that enhances the overall user experience.
