Alibaba Chairman Joe Tsai announced at the World Governments Summit in Dubai that the company has partnered with Apple to bring AI features to iPhones sold in China. “They talked to a number of companies in China. In the end they chose to do business with us. They want to use our AI to power their phones. We feel extremely honored to do business with a great company like Apple,” Tsai stated.
Apple has not yet officially commented on the partnership.
The integration of AI tools is a significant move for Apple, particularly as iPhone sales in China have recently declined.AI features have been a key selling point for Apple’s latest devices in other markets, but regulatory requirements in China have necessitated a local partnership for their implementation.
Alibaba has emerged as a favored AI company among investors in China, with its stock price showing substantial growth this year. The company recently released an updated version of its Qwen 2.5 AI model, which it claims outperforms other models in terms of functionality. This positions Alibaba as a strong partner for Apple in navigating the Chinese AI landscape.
