AI smart glasses from ByteDance could rival Meta’s wearable tech

ByteDance is reportedly developing its own AI-powered smart glasses, marking what could be the company’s most ambitious move into wearable tech to date. According to new reports, the parent company of TikTok is in the early stages of building a device that blends artificial intelligence with everyday eyewear, potentially positioning it as a competitor to Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses.

Although ByteDance has previously released smaller consumer tech products—like AI-driven earbuds and mobile accessories—this new project represents a more significant push into the wearable space. Insiders familiar with the project say the company has been actively recruiting engineers with expertise in hardware development over the past year. ByteDance is also said to be in early talks with component suppliers to outline key specifications and pricing models for its smart glasses.

One of the main technical goals of the ByteDance smart glasses is to support both image and video capture capabilities while maintaining battery efficiency. The company appears to be exploring ways to deliver a balance between functionality and form factor, focusing on user-friendly features without compromising performance.

This development aligns with ByteDance’s recent efforts to expand its presence in consumer electronics. During MWC 2025, ByteDance collaborated with Qualcomm on a next-generation VR headset. The company also acquired VR hardware maker Pico in 2021, a move that underscored its growing interest in immersive and AI-driven technology products.

While there are no confirmed details about launch dates or pricing, the early supplier discussions suggest that the project is progressing. If it materializes, ByteDance’s smart glasses could offer an alternative in a market currently led by Meta’s wearable devices, particularly the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses.

As consumer interest in AI-integrated wearables continues to grow, ByteDance may be preparing to enter a space that’s becoming increasingly competitive—and crowded.
