The Last of Us season 2 trailer reveals fractured bond between Joel and Ellie

The recently released trailer for the second season of HBO’s “The Last of Us” delves into the strained relationship between Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey), stemming from the events of the first season’s finale. The trailer culminates in Ellie discovering the extent of Joel’s actions to protect her, mirroring the narrative of “The Last of Us Part II” video game.

Even prior to this revelation, the trailer hints at underlying tension between the two. While Joel gifts Ellie a guitar and acknowledges her tattoo, the footage portrays a sense of distance. Ellie, now residing in the relative safety of Jackson, Wyoming, is seen navigating adolescence and forming a romantic connection with Dina (Isabela Merced). However, the illusion of safety is shattered as Jackson faces external threats.

The trailer introduces Abby (Kaitlyn Dever), a pivotal character in the season’s storyline, who is shown to have her own distinct motives. Additionally, the trailer showcases the presence of a militia led by Isaac Dixon (Jeffrey Wright, reprising his role from the game), signaling escalating conflicts for Joel, Ellie, and the residents of Jackson.

HBO has also expanded the cast with six new additions, including Joe Pantoliano as Eugene, a character who makes a brief appearance in the trailer. Eugene, previously only hinted at in the game, will have an expanded role in the series.

“The Last of Us” season 2 is set to premiere on OSN+ Sunday, April 13th.
