Twitter Now Has QR Codes For Some Reason

GEEK DESK

Nov 17

QR codes were all the rage back in the day when they first debuted. Being the spiritual successor to the BBM pin, the first major utilisation of the QR code was seen in Snapchat in the form of Snapcodes, a quirky fun way to add someone on Snapchat by scanning their code.

QR codes soon fell by the wayside, their practicality limited by the physical nature; something that’s not an issue when it comes to adding by username. And so we thought that QR codes had their era but Twitter seems to object to that notion.

To create the code on Twitter (on Android), open your side menu and you should see a QR code option. Clicking it lets you take a picture of someone else’s Twitter QR code, whilst an icon below that lets you view your own code. You can then simply screenshot the code and share it across any platform you want, or you can share it directly via the share icon at the top right of the screen.

Currently, QR codes are not available to all users.
