In accordance with His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s “Dubai Vision” set to transform Dubai into the world’s smartest city, a new project dubbed “Smart City” has been launched at AED 1.1billion as part of Dubai Silicon Oasis.
With an estimated completion date of 2017, the project houses:
- 97,000 square metres of office space
- 25,000 square metres of commercial space
- 20,000 square metres of residential areas
This is in addition to the hotels, restaurants, cafes, fitness centres, running and cycling tracks, and shopping centres. The car parking lot can accommodate 2,500 cars.
What makes this interesting though is that city will be serviced by electric-powered vehicles and there will be an ample supply of charging stations, as well as catering to the high-tech life of residents by offering charging stations for their smart devices. The city will run on renewable energy as well as provide several recycling options.
According to Dr Mohammed Alzarooni, vice-chairman and CEO of Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority:
The Silicon Park project is a true example of what the future will be like in live-work environments connected to the internet and smart applications. Our primary goal is to provide a contemporary model in the development of integrated smart projects that provide all the elements of modern life.
