It looks like HTC is finally getting into the smartwatch business. Following in the footsteps of Samsung, Huawei, Motorola and LG, the Taiwanese giant is apparently making Android Wear smartwatches, at least according to pictures that were leaked.
A Weibo user leaked a few pictures taken of a smartwatch that the user (and branding on said smartwatch) points to be HTC’s upcoming smartwatch, which is codenamed “Halfbeak”.
What we can gauge from the photo, specifically the one showing the underneath of the watch is that it will be targeted at fitness enthusiasts since it clearly has a heart rate sensor; it also features the branding of Under Armour, a popular company that specialises in fitness equipment and devices. The rubber straps and robust design also point towards this watch being built for the rugged outdoors, and not for fine dining.
A previous report about HTC’s rumoured smartwatch seems to be true if these leaks can be verified; Halfbeak features a 360 x 360 circular display. However, according to the leaker this particular model has been shelved, but I would expect some form of a smartwatch to release, especially considering that this one is quite far along the development process.
