It’s confirmed, tattoos can affect the Apple Watch’s heart sensor

Apple has confirmed on its site that tattoos can affect the Apple Watch’s heart sensor and its readings, after the Internet went crazy over reports and complaints from users with Tattoos on their arms.

The company has dedicated a page to explain how the Watch captures vitals and what factors affect the operation.

Permanent or temporary changes to your skin, such as some tattoos, can also impact heart rate sensor performance. The ink, pattern, and saturation of some tattoos can block light from the sensor, making it difficult to get reliable readings.

It’s worth noting that the issue isn’t limited to the Apple Watch, any device using similar hardware positioning can be faced with the same results.

Check out Apple’s page for more info.
